Sharon Switzer

Regional Director

As a Coordinator for Fernie Leisure Services for the last 11 years I have been responsible for organizing and developing many public events and community celebrations as well as contributing to many projects with nonprofit agencies in my personal life. My involvement in hospice, grief recovery circles, grant coordination for the Fernie Skateboard Park and President of Fernie Circle Recycling has helped me to develop my skills as a Community Liaison and allowed me to become familiar with the diverse needs and desires of many groups of people.

My interest in preserving the environmental integrity of our area has lead me to spearhead a recycling program that now is in place in Fernie, the Elk River Fall Cleanup event, to have information boards made and distributed at strategic locations to inform the public of Wildsight’s broad reaching activities, and to write numerous articles in the newspaper to advocate for environmental protection. I have participated in numerous political events to keep Coal Bed Methane out of the Elk Valley as it has been presented by BP.  In 2008, I became President of the Elk Valley Wildsight branch.

I hope to bring to the board my knowledge and experience with the community and my background in environmental advocacy so that we can create action and excitement that brings community together in dynamic ways to rally for responsible environmental stewardship.
