Water grant no drop in the bucket

Jul 28, 2010

A donation from the Royal Bank of Canada (RBC) may help a local project become a high-water mark of sorts for similar ones throughout the country.

The RBC’s Blue Water Leadership Fund has announced a $150,000 grant to Wildsight and the Lake Winnipeg Foundation to launch the Living Lakes Network Canada (LLNC). The LLNC is a national network whose mission is to enhance the protection, restoration, rehabilitation and enhancement of lakes, wetlands, rivers, and other water bodies of Canada.

According to Lake Windermere Project manager, Heather Leschied, the effect will trickle down to the local level as well as having a national impact.

“This grant will enable us to move forward with using the Lake Windermere Project as a successful example of community-based environmental monitoring to assist other groups across the country to build a water stewardship culture in their communities,” said Leschied.
