Town of Golden goes green with new bylaw
The Town of Golden recently passed a bylaw setting Greenhouse Gas (GHG) reduction targets from municipal corporate and community-wide activities.
The new bylaw stipulates a 20 per cent reduction in GHGs from municipal buildings, fleet and solid waste as well as a 33 per cent reduction in GHGs from similar community-wide sectors by 2020.
The new green bylaw enacted by the Town was prompted by provincial regulations requiring that by the end of May 2010, Official Community Plans across the province must include targets for GHG reductions and a plan of action in respect to achieving those targets.
