Using pesticides on lawns and gardens is set to be banned by the City of Fernie.
On Monday night council passed the first, second and third readings of the pesticide bylaw, which would see anyone caught using cosmetic pesticides on their property fined up to $250.
They are expected to give final approval to the bylaw at their next meeting on March 8, when Fernie would become the 29th municipality in B.C. to have a ban on pesticide use.
Under the bylaw, it will be illegal to use cosmetic pesticides, including herbicides to control plants or insecticides to control insects, if an alternative, non-chemical method exists.
