Water

In 2010, Wildsight’s Lake Windermere Project, a model for Living Lakes Canada, won the Real Estate Foundation of BC Land Award, which recognizes innovation, collaboration and leadership in conservation

Working with partners, Wildsight launched the Living Lakes Network Canada and organized the first-ever Canada Water Week.

Conservation

The ban on mining, oil and gas in the Flathead has moved forward and thousands have signed our petitions for the Flathead National Park and Wildlife Management Area.

Mountain Caribou Recovery work has lead to a government commitment  to translocate 20 caribou this winter to augment the Purcell herd.

Public awareness of the need to protect Jumbo is keeping the pressure on both developers and government.

Wildsight has directly engaged with Teck on mining impacts in the Elk Valley. The Elk River Alliance  is involving citizens in ecosystem health.

Wildsight has led the successful work to put on hold independent power projects that threaten the Columbia’s wild rivers and ecosystems.

Wildsight has begun a scientific mapping process to guide our conservation efforts. Mapping will identify core habitat areas and connectivity linkages needed to support healthy wildlife populations in the Columbia and Rocky Mountain ecoregions.

Community

Wildsight has developed an inspiring Climate Solutions for the Kootenays program that will deliver traveling workshops throughout the region in the coming year.

Pesticide Reduction is a region-wide Wildsight campaign, a cooperative effort of our branches as part of the Pesticide Free Columbia Basin coalition

Education in the Wild provided 186 field trip programs to 4,009 students. Our educators also delivered Beyond Recycling  to 174 students in seven classrooms across the Columbia Basin.

These are just some of the things Wildsight is doing.

It will help us secure protection for the wild places we cannot lose, for clean water and for educational programs that make a real difference to kids in this region.

Stay well, enjoy the changing season, and please accept my thanks.

For the wild,
