Pat Morrow screens A Life Ascending in Kimberley
One of Kimberley's more famous sons,
mountaineer Pat Morrow, is bringing his latest project home on May 19. Morrow was cinematographer for A Life
Ascending, which has been making the film festival rounds all over the
world this spring, and reaping rewards. A Life Ascending chronicles the life of
acclaimed ski mountaineer and mountain guide Ruedi Beglinger. Living
with his wife and two young daughters on a remote glacier in the Selkirk
Mountains, Beglinger has built a reputation as one of the top
mountaineering guides in the world. The film follows the life of Beglinger and
his family in the years since an avalanche in 2003. On January 20,
2003, seven people were killed in a class 3 avalanche on a peak called
La Traviata. Beglinger was the guide on that trip. But the film is not so much about the
avalanche and its aftermath as it is about Beglinger' and his family's
life on the remote glacier. Morrow
says he is looking forward to bringing the film to Kimberley. "I'm going to introduce it and explain my
role, and also a few other Kimberley people who worked on it," he said. Read the full article here.
