Family-Friendly Earth Day Features Free Kids Programs

With something for everyone being featured at the upcoming Earth Day festivities at McKim on April 22nd, parents with little ones will be in for a treat thanks to the free earth-friendly kids programs and child care being coordinated by ECE-certified instructor Lisa Costain.

Between 5:30 and 7 pm, Lisa will be teaming up with the Girl Guides and McKim’s Beyond Recycling students to run at least six different activity stations for parents and kids, including paper making, seed planting, worm compost bins, an earth day relay, trash to treasure, and promises to the planet.

From 7 pm to 9:30 pm free child care and more earth-friendly activities will be offered so parents of 3 to 8 year olds can watch the Wild & Scenic Environmental Film Festival being screened in the auditorium.  During that time kids will be able to continue with arts & crafts, nature games, gym activities, songs, stories and a special screening of The Lorax, by Dr. Seuss.

“What I like best about introducing earth friendly activities to children is that  it empowers them to think about the planet and our impact as humans, while still having fun and learning,” explains Lisa.  “I think this is especially important seeing as they will be the ones who inherit the planet in the state we leave it for them.”

All kids programs will take place in the gymnasium at McKim Middle School.  Please register in advance for child care by contacting kimcran@wildsight.ca or (250) 427-2535.
