Wildsight seeking a Biodiversity Projects Intern in Kimberley

Position Description
Wildsight Kimberley Cranbrook works to conserve and restore local biodiversity. The Biodiversity Projects Intern will work with our communities to raise awareness on ways we can reduce our current impacts on biodiversity and restore biodiversity lost as a result of past human activities. The position will focus on three major challenges to biodiversity - living with wildlife, community water use and invasive species and will integrate these issues into a “Living with Nature: Protecting Biodiversity” concept. The intern will work with our organization’s project managers and coordinators to develop the program and assist with Wildsight Kimberley/Cranbrook’s current biodiversity initiatives.
Tasks and responsibilities
* Work with Wildsight Kimberley Cranbrook’s program managers and Board of Directors to develop a Living with Nature: Protecting Biodiversity project incorporating community water use, invasive plants, and Bear Aware principles.
* Assist with planning and installation of water conservation ground cover demonstration plots at new park next to Aquatic Centre.
* Assist in planting and maintenance of native plants in Marysville Falls Eco Park.
* Coordinate Mark Creek & Marysville Falls Eco park volunteer sessions
* Assist with the coordination & supervision of school water use program.
* Attend community events/festivals in Kimberley and Cranbrook with outreach materials.
* Assist Bear Aware coordinator to carry out Wildsight’s Kimberley Bear Aware program.
* With assistance of Program Manager write funding applications for further Wildsight Kimberley Cranbrook biodiversity initiatives.
* Assist Wildsight Kimberley Cranbrook Program Manager in membership, board and program activities.
The Wildsight Biodiversity Projects Intern position is funded through the Youth Eco Internship Program. Interns must be between the ages of 15 and 30. To find out if you are eligible for the internship go to www.yeip.ca

This position is subject to final approval from the Youth Eco Internship Program. This is a full time, paid position. The length of the internship will be either 6 or 9 months.
