Wildsight’s 10 Ways to Celebrate Our Environment

More than just changing light bulbs (but it wouldn’t hurt to do that, too)

Here’s a list to help you celebrate Canadian Environment Week,  May 31 to June 6, 2009.

The truth is that every week is Environment Week.
Every week brings an opportunity to tread a little lighter on the earth.
It’s pretty easy to stay inspired all the weeks of the year—we live in one of the planet’s more diverse, beautiful places.

We asked our Wildsight program managers to come up with a list of ways to celebrate Canadian Environment Week — so here is “Wildsight’s 10 Ways to Celebrate Our Environment—ENJOY!

1) Protect our local wild rivers — watch these videos to learn more

2) All in favour of Mountain Caribou? Raise your right foot. Slow down for the mountain caribou when you are driving on Highway 3.

3) Get into some hot water, research switching to an on-demand hot water heater. This will decrease your use of hydroelectricity or natural gas—both sources of energy that rely on destruction of wilderness and biodiversity.

4) Don’t use bottled water. Instead, install a filter below your sink and fill up your travel bottle.

5) Get outside with a child!

6) Make the switch to cloth diapers for your babies.

7) Use a clothesline or rack to dry laundry — you get the fresh scent and the energy savings.

8) Visit a wild place! Maybe it’s a park or a back country tour … just remember to reconnect while you’re there.

9) Replace your old wood stove with a better one — AND get a rebate!

10) Become a Friend of the Flathead!
