Wildsight seeking a student for Ecological Restoration Assistant - Position is now filled

Wildsight Kimberley Cranbrook has a full-time 14-week opening for a student to work as an Ecological Restoration Assistant, based in Kimberley, BC.
Applicants must be under 31 years of age, have been registered as a full-time student in the previous academic year and intend to return to school on a full-time basis in the fall 2009..This position is suitable for a student with experience in landscaping and/or gardening. A background in landscape architecture, environmental science, biology, forestry or agriculture would be optimal.
The position runs from May 19 to August 22 and is 40hr/week. Wage is dependent on the student’s qualifications and experience.
The job description includes the following tasks:
- Assist in landscaping of Marysville Falls Eco Park.
- Plant & maintain native vegetation in the Eco Park and other Mark Creek restoration sites.
- Assist in the creation of a of a demonstration eco lawn.
- Map invasive weed infestations along the Mark Creek corridor and carry out invasive weed control.
- Assist with coordination of Elementary, Middle & High School hands-on restoration field trips.
- Interact with the public to raise awareness of Wildsight’s restoration work.
- Assist in the coordination of special events.
- Assist with fish and fish habitat monitoring.
- Assist with other Wildsight Kimberley/Cranbrook projects and activities when required.
The successful candidate will be fit, enjoy physical work and be willing to do outdoor work in all weather conditions. The candidate should be able to work independently, have excellent communication skills and work well with people of all ages. The successful candidate will enjoy taking initiative, have excellent problem solving skills and will work hard to get the job done.
