Free family night for Earth Day in Cranbrook

For Immediate Release

Come down to Rotary Park Spirit Square for music, food and fun on April 22, 2009

Cranbrook, B.C. — Earth Day Family Night at Rotary Park - Spirit Square on April 22 from 5 – 8 pm.

Earth Day will be celebrated in a big way in Cranbrook this year. Wildsight has put together an excellent lineup of music and happenings for the evening of Wednesday, April 22, 2009. Everyone is welcome to this outdoor, family-friendly party at the Spirit Square bandstand in downtown Cranbrook’s Rotary Park.

This free event will run from 5:00 pm until 8:00 pm. There will be live music, fresh food and great fun.

“Earth Day in Cranbrook will go ahead rain or shine, thanks to Sandor Rental who is supplying tents,” said Sherri McPherson, outreach coordinator with Wildsight. “We also appreciate Ben Blomander from PB Pro Audio for volunteering his sound services to make the event a go.”

The music will be good. Here’s the lineup: Joel Purdy and the Evergreens, Heather Gemmell, Potluck Steve, Dave Prinn, the Blarney Pilgrims and Van Redecopp. The performers are members of K.A.M.P. (Kootenay Association of Musical Performers) who are donating their talents to the event.

The food is going to be great, too. “But to keep it green please try to bring your own plates for the appetizers, bowls for the borsht and cups for the beverages,” McPherson said. Food and drink will be provided by Max’s Place, the new Douk’s Diner and Home Sweet Home Treats.

“Local community organizations will be on hand with their information,” McPherson said. “So there will be lots to take in and lots to find out. We’ll have a few activities to celebrate the Earth Day theme.”

Earth Day is an annual international event started in 1970. It was intended to inspire awareness and appreciation for the Earth’s environment. “Cranbrook Earth Day will provide residents an opportunity to show their appreciation of our environment through community sharing,” McPherson said. “We are also inviting all schools to the event. We appreciate the good work they are doing in the community, particularly their garbage clean-up efforts during Pitch-In week.”

There is still time to get involved. “If you or someone you know is doing good work for the environment and would like us to highlight it during the evening, please let us know,” McPherson said. “We welcome information booths and short presentations.” Contact Sherri McPherson at 250 426-8865 or sherri@wildsight.ca.
