The heart of the Flathead — in your living room, your classroom, at your meeting
You can host Wildsight’s new Flathead Wild multimedia show
This story isn’t about movie stars —
it’s way more important… This story is
about an amazing place near us in southeastern B.C. Hearing this story,
and seeing it in a multimedia show, is a great way to spend an evening with friends — free, live entertainment for your mind and soul.
The Flathead River Valley story
Scientists have spent decades studying the Flathead River Valley. Now, as awareness of its special wildness mounts, (along with pressures to industrialize it,) Wildsight is offering a FREE multimedia presentation on this unique wilderness to groups of any size. Where is the Flathead?
A taste of what you’ll experience…
Scavengers, bone crushers, stalkers: CARNIVORES! (and a couple of omnivores…)
The Flathead has the greatest range of predator mammals in North America: grizzlies, black bear, cougar, lynx, bobcat, wolf, wolverine, badger, red fox, coyote, river otter, marten, fisher, mink and weasel. The Flathead Wild multimedia show explains WHY they thrive in the Flathead, like nowhere else.
Crown of the Continent: why?
It’s called the Crown of the Continent for several reasons. For example, a drop of rain that falls on Triple Divide Peak in the Flathead can end up in the Arctic, the Atlantic or the Pacific. Thousands of plant species converge here from different landscapes, making it North America’s most diverse plant community.
Clean, flowing waters
The Flathead River is wild and scenic — it remains so pure that scientists use it as a benchmark for how a river should be. It’s the centrepiece for this great, wide, unsettled valley, that has stayed remarkably intact since the last ice age.
Wild forever?
Good question. Right now, there are several mining and coalbed methane interests in the Flathead and the adjacent southern Rockies that could compromise its wildlife, its water and its future. The Flathead simply cannot stay as the “missing piece of the sanctuary puzzle” forever. Learning about the Flathead is a first step in helping it stay intact for future generations.
What can we expect from this presentation?
Using excellent Google Earth imagery, Wildsight’s Casey Brennan will take you through the spectacular Flathead River Valley and the southern Rockies. You will see video of its abundant wildlife, learn more about its unique fish habitat, and find out exactly what the issues are on the path to long-term protection for this amazing area.
Casey will share a wealth of knowledge during the presentation that will help you, your family, your group or your students understand what a globally-important treasure this region is.
