Cranbrook's Air Quality Monitoring in Jeopardy
Wildsight has recently learned that BC Ministry of Environment may be
cutting its air quality monitoring program in Cranbrook as part of its
budget-trimming efforts. This should be of significant concern to
residents in the Cranbrook airshed, especially since Cranbrook is known
to have episodes of high levels of airborne particulates which can
significantly increase health risks for children, the elderly, and those
with respiratory or cardiac illnesses.
The City of Cranbrook's position will be pivotal on whether air quality continues to be monitored in the city, so please take the time to let the City of Cranbrook know that air quality is important to you and that having an air quality monitoring
program is important for the community. A great opportunity to communicate your concern will be at the Mayor's Brown Bag lunch at City Hall Tuesday, March 24, at noon.
