Jumbo Wild - Blockade on Farnham Creek to Stop Lift Construction

Developer Attempting Backdoor Development for Jumbo

Jumbo Resort proponents are attempting to start construction of a'temporary surface lift' this week, with no final permit for the resort in place.

If anyone can use an escape to the Central Purcells, you'll be able to enjoy a beautiful place while making a statement to keep Jumbo wild! We are setting up a blockade on the Farnham Creek Road to stop any progress on lift construction.

The would-be developers have included this lift use in their Master Development Plan that has not received a final permit to proceed with construction of the resort. This lift, although deemed temporary in nature and intended 'for athletes only' (they want to bus athletes in every day from Radium...?), represents an incursion into the Proposed Jumbo Glacier Resort Controlled Recreation area. The Canadian Olympic Development Committee has clearly stated that this lift is not for the use of their athletes and does not support their program. Developers are working to get a foot into the back door of Jumbo, a door that has remained tightly shut by the community and Ktunaxa nation.

The long and short is that the would-be developers of Jumbo are trying to begin development of the resort master plan with resort permit in place. This cannot be allowed!

BLOCKADE ON FARNHAM CREEK ROAD

WHERE: We will be camped on the Farnham Creek Forestry Road in a very picturesque spot.   It is accessed from Horsethief Creek. Horsethief goes in off Westside Road between Invermere (Wilmer) and Radium. Go to Invermere, through Wilmer (turn right after bridge # 2 near the lake as you head up the hill to Invermere Downtown). Through Wilmer follow the West Side Road to the intersection. Take the Horsethief Creek Road to approximately Km 41.5 approximately, where you will angle off left onto the Farnham Creek Road (if you cross Farnham Creek you have gone past the turn off--- you will know you are on the correct road if you pass an orange gate soon after turning up the road). We will be camped along this road at a nice spot.

We hope you are able to join us! Bring a tent and some food and good cheer.
We may have to keep this one set up for a while...

This is a peaceful, positive campout, to send ANOTHER message to the Province and those who wish to turn Jumbo into a development that they have chosen the wrong place for their resort.

WHEN: Starting Friday August 1st until further notice

Keep Jumbo Wild!
