Carnivore Expert to Speak at College of the Rockies

Wildsight is encouraging local citizens to attend a presentation by renowned Carnivore expert Dr. John Weaver of the Wildlife Conservation Society Canada. Dr. Weaver will be presenting findings of their recent study Carnivores of the Southern Canadian Rockies – Core Areas and Linkages Across Highway 3 on Wednesday, February 6th at 7:30pm in room S114 at the Summit Hall building of College of the Rockies. Admission is free.

Wildsight believes this is an incredible opportunity for citizens to learn more about internationally significant wildlife populations in our region and the threats posed to them by proposed industrial resource extraction projects.

“[Dr. Weaver] speaks all over North America about his work here in the southern Canadian Rockies,” says Wildsight Program Manager Dave Quinn. “We are incredibly lucky to have him share his insight.”

Quinn states that the timing of Dr. Weaver’s presentation is particularly relevant due to numerous recent mining and fossil fuel extraction proposals in this special place.

Dr. Weaver is widely recognized as one of the world’s foremost Carnivore specialists having worked throughout western North America for over three decades. His report details the difficulties of maintaining connectivity across Highway 3 and outlines long-term conservation plans for the region’s carnivores.
