Olympic Association Denies Jumbo Involvement

Glacier Resorts Unclear About Olympic Support Of Jumbo Resort

November 13, 2007, Invermere, BC - Is Glacier Resorts misleading the public into believing that the Canadian Olympic Development Agency (CODA) supports their bid for the Jumbo Resort project?

Recent comments from Glacier Resorts vice-president Grant Costello suggest confusion regarding the nature of Glacier Resorts’ relationship with CODA.

In a letter addressed to Wildsight, CODA clearly expressed it is not associated with the Jumbo Resort project.

“As originally discussed with your organization, CODA is not involved in, or
associated with the Jumbo Resort project, and any statements to that effect are wrong.”
 - Jim Younker, CODA acting president and CFO, October 18th, 2007.

However, recent statements from Glacier Resorts seem to confuse and contradict the nature of their relationship:

"We have initiated discussions with CODA officials in order to provide assurances to the coaches and athletes that the facilities will be operated without disruption through 2010 and beyond and are exploring a joint operation model which includes Glacier Resorts operating the ski area and installing surface lifts on Farnham Glacier…” – Grant Costello, Glacier Resorts vice-president, November 2, 2007, Columbia Valley Pioneer.

These contradictory statements raise questions about Glacier Resorts’ claim that they are in a position to move forward with the Jumbo Resort Development with the support of CODA.

“Glacier Resorts’ claims reflect their desperate struggle to round up public support for their project,” says Wildsight spokesperson Kat Hartwig. “We can only infer they are desperate and will say anything that falsely implies support for their locally very unpopular project. CODA has clearly and firmly denied any connection with Jumbo Development.”

After twenty years of struggle, the Jumbo Resort is not a done deal.
