Community Supported Agriculture (CSA)
The Grain CSA pilot project developed by Brenda Bruns of Wildsight and Matt Lowe of the Nelson Eco-society, set three goals: food security; reducing the carbon footprint; and fair trade for farmers. Meeting these goals will lead to more healthy food grown locally.
Two hundred people bought shares in the project and four Creston farmers grew wheat, oats, barley and kamut crops for the shareholders. The harvest is complete, and shareholders have received from 70 to 100 lbs. of unmilled grain.
