The branch continues its community outreach programs, hosting engaging speakers throughout the year on a wide range of topics including wildlife and the region’s landscape.  You can find this year's lineup under Speaker Series.

Our branch is a member of the Creston Valley Community Forest Corporation, keeping control of our watersheds and employment in the hands of the community. The community forest has adopted eco-forestry recommendations made by the Silva Foundation. We are concentrating on selective logging techniques such as single tree harvesting, shelter wood, and small group selection in which open cuts are never more than two tree heights in diameter.

We have our new Probationary Community Forest Agreement (PCFA), which includes an additional 7,000 hectares to the east of Creston.  The additional area includes the watershed for Kitchner and important deer/elk winter range on the south-facing Kitchner Mountain.  The PCFA gives the Community Forest exclusive timber harvesting rights to Creston's main watersheds, is renewable, long-term and ensures our ecosystem-based stewardship will continue.  Just as importantly, it also includes a variety of tree species that will help us economically; something we desperately need in these tough economic times.
