I have always had a keen interest in natural history and the outdoors, so what better place to live than the Creston Valley? Our two sons and their families share my good luck as they too, can work, and play in the Kootenays. I am a founding member of Wildsight/ Creston Valley and very proud of the work done by this group of people powered by passion for nature. My dream is to see the Creston Valley Bird Festival continue to bring awareness, astonishment, and love of the natural world to everyone who takes part.

I came to birding later in life after raising a family and working in the valley for many years. I love being a part of the festival and attending it as I have learned so much about our birds and the valley through them.

Since moving here in 2013 I have fallen in love with everything Creston has to offer- the diversity of bird life, plants & numerous outdoor activities. Being a committee member has allowed me to learn more and contribute to a festival that highlights so much of what is in this area.

Carla Ahern: Creston Valley Wildlife Management Authority Liaison

My love for the outdoors and environmental education brought me to Creston in 2005 to work for the Creston Valley Wildlife Management Area (CVWMA) as a researcher and naturalist. In 2010 I took over running the Centre and its programs and I now work for the Kootenay-Columbia Discovery Centre Society, an organization dedicate to continuing the traditional of offering environmental educational programs at the CVWMA. Sharing my knowledge and love of this wetland and its inhabitants have me pinching myself to make sure that this is actually my paid job! The CV Bird Festival is an amazing event that I am proud to be a part of, since its inception in 2013. It brings bird lovers together, from novice to experts, and nurtures an appreciation and awe for birds and wild spaces. What a great thing!

Ulrike Sliworsky: Creston Valley Bird Festival Coordinator

My interest in birding began in 1985 when I took an Ornithology course at the University of Manitoba.  Since then, I had the opportunity to re-introduce endangered species such as Peregrine Falcons and Burrowing Owls for the Manitoba Wildlife Branch, I banded waterfowl for the Canadian Wildlife Service, and I have also banded songbirds for the Mackenzie Naturalists.   I have enjoyed participating in the Audubon’s Christmas Bird Count for over 30 years in various communities.   Being outdoors, appreciating nature, meeting other people with the same passion for our valley avians, and sharing a birding experience are some of the reasons why I am part of the CV Bird Fest!
